Skin conditions in horses can be just as serious as when we develop skin conditions. Not everyone realizes the importance of skin on our bodies and the bodies of our horses. Skin is the largest organ on the horse’s body just as it is for us. If there is a problem of some sort with the horse, it will usually manifest itself as skin conditions. In horse’s skin, there lie many layers all having a purpose. If one part of the horse’s skin is affected, chances are good that other parts are affected as well.

A good healthy coat on your horse is important for more than just appearance. Although, when people look at horses, their coat is the first thing they’ll see. A coat that is shiny and sleek is usually the sign of a healthy horse. However, a coat that is shaggy, long and dull in appearance usually indicates some sort of skin conditions in this horse. Having a good healthy coat on your horse is more than just luck. It requires good care.

To avoid skin conditions in horses, make sure you give your horse a good nutritional diet with a lot of vitamins and minerals, more than just the daily required amount. For the maximum waterproofness, they need a lot of good oil production. Make sure your horse is having healthy and regular bowel movements, as this is necessary for good health and to prevent skin conditions in horses. Good weather with lots of sunshine is also required for a healthy horse. When we say lots of sunshine, we don’t mean excessive heat with high humilities, but rather a nice amount of sun. The horse should also be allowed ample room to get in shade if need be or away from flies, which can cause serious skin conditions in horses. In fact, flies and parasites can damage the skin in horses quicker than almost anything else can. If a horse is affected with fly bites or worms and not treated, it can go into their system and damage their respiratory or intestinal system.

Other things will damage the skin on the horse such as vitamin and mineral deficiency. Make sure your horse is kept away from toxins they may breathe in or eat, as this can make them very sick. Using antibiotics, strong harsh chemicals and parasiticides on their coat can cause skin conditions in horses. Stress will often affect a horse causing them to go “off feed”, which will affect their coat and skin as well. Almost any ailment a horse may have will usually show itself first in the coat and skin.

Skin conditions are something that everyone is bothered with at one time or another. They can be permanent skin conditions like birthmarks or temporary skin conditions such as a rash, sunburn or impetigo. In fact, there are so many different skin conditions; it’s sometimes hard to identify them without the help of a doctor. If you have pictures, skin conditions can often be easily identified. Without the graphics of pictures, skin conditions may be mistaken for another condition, thus causing the patient to take the wrong treatment.

Often when patients go to see a doctor, the doctor will show pictures of skin conditions so the patient will know what to expect while the skin condition is healing. The pictures will show what the skin condition looks like in the early stage, the middle stage and when it is healing. Although doctors encourage patients to look at the pictures, skin conditions should still be seen by a doctor if they appear to be different from what is expected because so many skin conditions are similar in their early stages.

Most people today have medical books in their homes for their own reference, especially parents of children. Children are constantly getting little bumps, bruises, skin conditions, etc. Parents prefer to not have to see a doctor for every little ailment therefore; they get a lot of use out of the medical book’s pictures. Skin conditions can be found in the medical books, allowing the parents to find out what their children have developed on their skin and the best possible treatment. Occasionally, the parents still have to take their children to see a doctor if their skin condition doesn’t heal as it should of if they have questions, but the pictures help them a lot.

There are so many different skin conditions such as eczema, dermatitis, psoriasis, chicken pox, pimples, acne, heat rash, hives, insect bites, and poison ivy to name just a few. Although many of these look very similar, most of them have some little detail that makes them different. While being able to see pictures, skin conditions are often much easier to identify. You can also go to your local public library to browse through many books on health and skin conditions. Most of these medical books will have descriptive pictures of skin conditions as well as many other medical conditions.

Often doctors will give parents pictures along with articles about the condition so they can read and compare their child’s condition with the parents. This helps them feel secure knowing their child is healing as they should.

Feline skin conditions are different skin conditions that affect cats. They can be caused by many different things. While most feline skin conditions aren’t very serious, some can lead to conditions that are more serious if they are not treated promptly.

Many feline skin conditions are caused by some sort of allergic reaction. Although allergic reactions, by themselves, are not that serious, they can often be hard to control until you can pinpoint the thing that is causing the allergy. This may become a big project because you’ll have to eliminate everything they come in contact with on a daily basis. The first step in trying to help feline skin conditions is to eliminate the possibility of parasites on the skin. It’s quite common for dogs and cats to become infested with fleas and parasites, especially if they are around other animals. The best preventative measure against parasites and fleas are flea collars or powder as well as preventative worm medication given a couple of times a year.

Occasionally even a cat that has a flea collar on can still manage to get fleas. The first sign you will notice is excessive scratching. Upon close inspection of the cat, you may be able to see tiny little fleas. Treatment for fleas in cats is a special shampoo by the vet or pet store as well as disinfecting your home to make sure you got rid of the hosts. Another cause of feline skin conditions are mange mites. If your cat has mange mites, they will need veterinary treatment.

Once you have eliminated mange mites and fleas, some other more common feline skin conditions that may affect your cat are eczema, dermatitis, and pyoderma. These feline skin conditions are sometimes referred to as a non-specific skin allergy. Some of the symptoms of these allergies are itchiness, inflamed hot skin and redness under the belly or armpits. If the cat spends a lot of time scratching, you may notice a loss of hair. Herbal medicines have been used as treatment by many cat owners that want to try the holistic method rather than traditional method of veterinary services.

Before treatment of any kind can be determined, it’s important to first get to the cause of the feline skin conditions affecting your cat. Diet should be the first thing you consider, as many feline skin conditions are a result of allergies caused by the food they eat. Many cats have been known to have allergic reactions to red meats, high protein foods, and foods with vitamin and mineral supplements as well as coloring. You may want to eliminate these one by one to see if there’s a change in their condition. Kelp seaweed tablets are a good remedy for hair loss while you are dealing with the problem.

Itchy skin conditions make us very uncomfortable especially when we don’t know what is causing them. Itchy skin, which is also known as pruritus, can be caused by hundreds of things. Itchy skin conditions can come from a rash or insect bite or some other skin condition such as dermatitis or psoriasis. Many aren’t aware of this by itchy skin conditions may also be the result of an internal problem such as kidney or liver disease. With internal diseases, your skin may appear to look very normal, but it will itch.

Other itch skin conditions may be accompanied by rough skin, blisters, bumps or redness. The best way to get lasting treatment for your itchy skin conditions is to determine the exact cause. Because they can be caused by so many things, sometimes it’s difficult for doctors to determine the exact cause without in-depth testing.

Some treatments doctors may recommend for itchy skin conditions are therapy, wet dressings, medications, cool baths and anti-itch medications, both over-the-counter and prescription. Many of the treatment methods are multi-function, meaning they can be used for a variety of different types of itchy skin conditions. Doctors will often prescribe these at first to see if they work on the patient to save the patient money on unnecessary testing.

Eczema is an itchy skin condition that can affect adults or children. When it affects children, it’s referred to as childhood eczema or atopic eczema. Childhood eczema is a hereditary condition that affects many babies. The skin of eczema patients is inflamed, irritated, and well as very itchy. It will usually show up on the inner creases of the knees and elbows in young children and on the neck or face of babies. As itchy as it makes them, they are discouraged to not scratch as this can tear the skin and cause bleeding and infection. Although eczema is not from an allergy, patients that have eczema often have very sensitive skin that has allergic reactions to many household pollens, dust, mold, etc.

Other itchy skin conditions are psoriasis, dandruff or scalp psoriasis. Scalp psoriasis is a chronic skin disorder where the skin cells grow and produce up to six times faster than normal. In addition, they shed in a matter of days rather than weeks, which is the normal time. When this happens on the scalp, pink patches appear followed by scaly skin. Scalp psoriasis is a hereditary condition that can affect us at any age, but it most often between the ages of 10 and 30. Doctors can prescribe medication for this skin condition.

Having a new baby is one of the most exciting moments in the world. Raising them can be just as much fun. Many new things will come up with your baby that you’re not going to be sure about. Baby skin conditions are probably one of these things. Many baby skin conditions will affect your baby. Baby’s have soft and delicate skin that you are not going to want affected by skin conditions. It’s to you and your baby’s advantage that you have some idea of what kind of baby skin conditions there are so you know how to help them.

Baby acne, also known as acne neonatorum, consists of acne lesions on the baby’s face. They usually come from the mother’s hormones that are still in the baby’s bloodstream after the birth. Baby acne usually develops when they are two or three months old and lasts up to two months. Many believe that keeping a baby too warm can cause baby acne to flare up.

One of the most common baby skin conditions is cradle cap, which is also known as seborrhea. Many babies have cradle cap at some point. It is a greasy scale on the baby’s scalp and has the appearance of dandruff. In some cases, it can be mild enough that you can shampoo it out and other times, it may be more severe. The use of baby oil on their scalp works very well for cradle cap.

There are many baby skin conditions that people may not have heard of, but they may be very common such as stork bites. Stork bites come from dilated blood vessels or capillaries in the skin. Doctors consider stork bites a result of fetal circulation, which occurs in 30%-40% of babies born. They are on the back of the neck and scalp and occasionally on the eyelids or nose. They usually disappear within the first year.

Birthmarks are another skin condition that affects many babies. Also known as giant congenital nevus, they can present themselves at birth or anytime during the first year. They usually are moles that are 1.5 centimeters in size. The biggest concern doctors have about these moles is the risk of melanoma or skin cancer. Occasionally, they will disappear on their own or can be removed when the child is a lot older.

The most common of the baby skin conditions is diaper rash. Hardly a baby has been born that hasn’t developed diaper rash at some time in their life. While changing diapers frequently will usually prevent diaper rash from appearing, some babies are more prone to getting diaper rash. It should be treated as quickly as possible to prevent it from getting worse and needing antibiotics or medical attention.

Dry skin occurs to all of us at some time, depending on where we’re at and what we’re doing. Dry skin is also known as xerosis. Some of us get dry skin after being outdoors too long, being around harsh chemicals or being in water and some have dry skin all the time. Some of the people may have been born with dry skin and others may have developed it from their hands coming in contact with conditions and situations that bring on dry skin and dry skin conditions. As the skin dries out, our cells contract and shrivel, causing us to develop wrinkles and fine lines. Sometimes by time we are aware of these fine lines and wrinkles, it’s too late to do anything about them.

Dry skin conditions occur when our skin does not have the normal amount of moisture and natural oils it needs to stay soft, moist and healthy. Certain conditions such as overexposure to the sun, cold winter months or harsh chemicals tend to take out the moisture and oils and leave us with dry skin, which lead to dry skin conditions. Everyone knows that the hot summer months can be very hard on our skin. What many don’t know is that the winter months can be even harder on our skin. Because there is not as much humidity in the winter, we lose a lot of moisture and oils in our skin, making them very dry and very susceptible to dry skin conditions. Other conditions that can lead us to getting dry skin are under-hydration, air conditioning and excess bathing. All of these things remove the natural oils that are important to our skin.

Ichthyosis is a more serious skin condition where the individual has scales on their body similar to scales on a fish. The main cause of this is that the skin doesn’t shed as it should but rather accumulates into scales. This genetic skin condition requires the care of a dermatologist. Individuals with ichthyosis resemble leprosy patients. Treatment involves a biopsy of the skin as well as a history of the family. There are many types of Ichthyosis and it’s a disease that affects dogs.

Other common dry skin conditions include psoriasis, eczema and types of dermatitis. Psoriasis is a condition where the individual is affected with red skin, and dry scales that look like dandruff. In more severe cases of psoriasis, the skin may even form pus-filled blisters or crack and bleed. This chronic disease is always there. It may subside for a while and then flare up again. Psoriasis is most common with people between the ages of 15 and 35.

Many risk factors can determine if a person is more prone to dry skin conditions such as genetics, smoking, age, outdoor activities, sex and amount of bathing or showers.

Skin conditions in dogs are very common today. Perhaps they have always been present in our dogs, but dogs are more of a family pet being kept indoors than in the past. The Pitbull, which has been the subject of much controversy, has become a very popular dog in recent years. As with all dogs, they require good quality food, regular check ups and prevention from any ailments. Many dog owners seem to prefer female dogs, whether it’s because they plan to breed or just for their loving protective nature. Many Pitbull owners prefer to own a female Pitbull. Skin conditions are one thing that is quite common in dogs. They may start as something simple as simple dry skin due to the weather or may be something more serious such as parasites or worms.

Female Pitbull skin conditions may also occur during gestation or after giving birth. This sometimes happens because pregnancy and nursing takes a lot out of the dog-sometimes faster than it is being replaced. You may have seen a female Pitbull with skin conditions such as shaggy or loose hair, excess shedding or dull coat and think the dog is very unhealthy. In reality, this just may be a sign that they are nursing a large litter of puppies and haven’t gotten back to their pre-pregnancy condition.

Whether you have a male or female Pitbull, skin conditions can occur even without pregnancy. There may also be a variety of causes for these problems. One main cause of skin problems in the Pitbull is with the blue-coated Pitbull. The blue-coated Pitbull is very popular with dog owners that like the Pitbull dog. While they are beautiful to look at, prospective owners should be aware that they are very prone to skin conditions. Many new owners purchase blue-coated Pitbull without thoroughly researching them and then want to return them when problems arise. Many skin problems are associated with the blue coat coloring.

These problems are not linked with one particular gender. Whether it’s a male or female Pitbull, skin conditions such as staph, viral, bacterial and fungal infections are very common in blue-coated Pitbull. Other conditions that may develop are allergies, dermatitis, color mutant alopecia and demodex, all of which have been linked with the blue coats. Occasionally, some of the male or female Pitbull skin conditions may be hereditary, but they are usually the result of the blue coat. Although, these skin conditions may not be very expensive to have taken care of, they are something new owners should be aware of before purchasing the dog.

Our skin is a very important part of our body. Many people aren’t aware that it is considered the largest organ in our body. It also has a very important role. Its role is in protecting our body from the outside world; in the same way that plastic wrap protects food for us. If the plastic wrap on food becomes ripped, it can no longer protect the food and keep it soft and moist. Our skin works the same way for us, protecting us as long as it is healthy. The health of our skin and conditions of our skin determine how much protection it gives us. When we spend too much time out in the sun, we damage our skin and conditions such as sunburn arise. Sunburn causes our outer layer of skin to become red and peel. When our skin begins to peel, we are no longer getting the maximum protection we should from our skin and conditions such as skin cancer are possible.

At the end of the day, their skin may be red and dry. Dry skin is a very common skin condition. In fact, although many people may feel they have normal skin, very feel people have normal skin.

Equine Skin Conditions can make the difference of a sleek shiny coat or a dull dingy coat in your horse or pony. Equine skin conditions can develop for many reasons. Although most of them are not serious or life threatening, if not taken care of, they can develop into more serious problem. One example of this is parasites in the horse. The initial symptom of a internal parasites is dry, dingy and loose hair particularly on the rump by the tail. If the parasite problem is not corrected, the entire coat of the horse will begin to look shaggy. Parasites like worms feed off the horse and if left untreated can do damage to the intestinal system of the horse. If this goes on too long, the horse may become weak, ill and sluggish, often leading to other equine skin conditions or health issues.

Equine skin conditions can develop slowly or they may come on all at once. Fortunately, most horses have short hair so it’s easier to find equine skin conditions than it is on dogs and cats and animals with long fur or hair. With daily grooming, many of the skin conditions can be spotted right away and taken care of quickly and easily. Equine skin conditions usually fall into two categories. There are those that exhibit itching and hair loss and those that have hair loss with not itching.

Some of the equine skin conditions that cause itching and hair loss are bites from gnats and horn flies, mange and lice. Each of these conditions can be treated with repellants or powders that can be purchased in any store that sells horse supplies. If the horse is in more serious condition, they may need to be seen by a vet. If the horse is suffering from mange, they will need to be quarantined away from the other horses. Once it has been cured, it can be put with the other horses. This safety measure is very important, as it’s much easier to treat one horse than a herd of horses. What most of these equine skin conditions have in common is that the horse will try to scratch himself on anything that is nearby, which is how they manage to rub their hair off, resulting in the hair loss.

The equine skin conditions that cause hair loss and no itching are alopecia, ringworm, skin scald, sarcoids and rain scald. Alopecia is caused by inflammation in the skin. Ringworm is a fungal infection where you will find crusty and scaly lesions. They will need bathing with treatments as well as a checkup from the vet. There are also topical salves to apply on the infection. Skin scald results in hair loss on the lower legs and is caused by poor hygiene in the barn. Rain scald will happen in areas where there is high moisture. A biopsy will usually need to be taken for a correct diagnosis. Most of these equine skin conditions can be easily treated with early treatment.

Dogs have been around about as long as man has, but their popularity as a family pet an indoor dog has increased drastically in recent years. With dog being kept indoors, more attention is paid to their skin and coat. Therefore, owners are quick to notice when their dog develops dog skin conditions. Although many dog owners aren’t aware of the many dog skin conditions that exist, there are many. If you are an owner of a dog, skin conditions are something you should be aware of so you can help your dog if it is needed.

Dog skin conditions may be something as minor as matted and snarled hair or it can be a more serious skin problem such as worms or other parasites. Dogs should be given preventative worm medications especially if they live in conditions where they are more susceptible such as kennels or around other dogs. If a dog becomes infected with worms or other parasites, they will develop poor coat conditions, itchy and often irritated skin. For a dog, skin conditions can make the difference of them looking good or looking sickly.

A dog’s coat should be brushed regularly. Many people feel the only reason why their dog should be brushed is for physical appearance, but there are more reasons that are important. When you are brushing your dog, you are opening the circulation for their natural oils, which they need to have healthy skin and coat. When they begin to lose their natural oils, their skin becomes dry, which may cause matting as well as itchiness. Bathing a dog too often may also cause them to lose some of their natural oils. Brushing your dog will also make it easier for you to notice if there are any cuts, abrasions, ticks or other irregularities. The sooner these problems are noticed, the sooner they can be cured.

Young dogs and puppies often scratch themselves or chew on themselves. Although there may be a reason for this, often it is just puppy behavior. This type of behavior, however, can cause dog skin conditions such as itching or sores. Diet also plays an important part in the way a dog’s skin may look. If they are not getting the proper nutrients, the first place it will usually show up is in their coat. They may begin to shed more often or their coat may become very dull-looking. They may also develop yeast infections or allergies, which will also cause itching and scratching. It’s important to have your dog on a diet of high-quality dog food. Don’t assume because a dog food is a name brand or expensive that it’s a good quality dog food. This is not always the case. Let the ingredients determine how good the dog food is for your dog. The main ingredients in the dog food should consist of meat or meat products, not corn, wheat or soy, which can contribute to allergies in dogs.

If your dog is on a good diet, receives good maintenance, and still seems to have dog skin conditions, a trip to the vet may be in order.
