Psoriasis is one of the most common skin conditions, which is important for you to learn in case you are keen to maintain the health of your skin. Though not very hazardous or fatal, yet Psoriasis is a fairly common skin condition and can affect almost anyone.

This type of an inflammatory condition of the skin is basically characterised by the appearance of red and scaly patches on the skin, known as psoriatic plaques. These spots become the centre point of inflammation and excessive skin production.

Gradually, the skin begins to accumulate at these spots and starts taking on a silvery-white appearance, usually appearing on the skin of elbows, knees, scalp or genitals.

What you also need to remember is that Psoriasis can often turn chronic and can range from minor localised patches to the complete body coverage. In order to keep away from this condition, the best you can do is to steer away from infections, stay hygienic and be generally alert about any warning signals.

The human skin has always responded very well to nutritional supplements in terms of diet, minerals and vitamins. Of the last two, vitamin E is the one that has gained the maximum importance and popularity in the last few years.

To begin with, Vitamin E has very strong antioxidant properties, which means that it might be helpful in preserving the skin and slowing the process of aging. Research also shows that Vitamin E effectively helps in controlling acne, scars, angina, ulcers, stretch marks, varicose veins and pigmentation.

There are various food substances that are a rich source of Vitamin E and should be consumed to get a good supply of this nutrient. Such food items include beef, liver, green peas, vegetable oils, eggs, turnip and sunflower oil. Vitamin E is also found in oil that comes from soybeans, in wheat germ, cottonseeds, maize and green leaves such as lettuce.

Acne is by far the most common skin problem that brings women and even men to the dermatologists. Professional help ensures that acne, in the mild and severe forms gets minimized as far as possible, leaving behind a minimal amount of scars.

However, if you are one of those who just can’t resist touching and squeezing your pimples, sit up and listen. Fiddling with or forcibly squeezing pimples can actually cause permanent scarring of the skin, which is definitely more traumatic than having an ugly looking scar itself. Easier said than done, but it is important that you do not get into the allurement of getting rid of that horrible looking pimple right away, by simply squeezing it.

Instead, what you can actually do is to keep an acne stick handy. This is a kind of cosmetic which looks like a pen and can be just applied on the pimple like a dot. Also, keep the specialized anti acne creams and ointments at hand, which will help you resist the temptation till you reach your doctor.

Weight loss is generally the first step to fitness. The obsession to lose weight in order to look good is prevalent amongst all age groups and almost in a strong intensity.

However, as we always say that excess of everything is bad, the same is the case with weight loss as well, especially for your skin. Well, to begin with, excessive weight loss, especially that occurs over a short period of time leads to loosening of the skin and development of the much-dreaded stretch marks.

Besides, excessive weight loss is often accompanied by an overall weakness in body, which is quite strongly reflected in the health of your skin. Your skin needs a regular supply of rich nutrients, both through the diet and cosmetics. When you are on a spree to lose weight, this often gets ignored and the impact soon begins to show on your skin.

Dark under eye circles are a very common problem, gaining popularity only next to the problem of acne. The main culprits causing this include lack of sleep, fatigue, stress, dietary deficiency and diseases.

The most important and effective solution for this problem is to gain proper sleep. Experts advise having a minimum eight hours of sound sleep in order to keep yourself fit. Besides, these circles also have to be treated very carefully in terms of cosmetics since the skin around the eyes is very sensitive.

Follow a night regimen everyday to cure yourself of this particular skin problem. First cleanse your eyes with a rehydrant gel and moist cotton wool. Apply a suitable eye cream gently and wipe off after short gap of time. No cream should be left around the eyes to avoid any damage.

Food products like almonds have excellent therapeutic properties and creams containing such ingredients are especially good for the dark circles.

An oily T-zone is basically a typical characteristic of the combination skin. For an introduction, a combination skin is an oily and dry skin combined, with their basic features.

Some experts comment that combination skin is in fact carries the worst features of an oily and a dry skin. A T-zone essentially defines the nature of dry skin. The T-zone basically comprises of the nose, forehead and chin, along with a dry panel consisting of cheeks, mouth and areas around the eyes. Generally, it is almost always known as an oily T-zone, as it is in with people having a combination skin.

Individuals having an oily T-zone have to be very particular of their skin care regimen, especially the part of cleansing. A stringent cleaning procedure with a medicated soap and lukewarm water has to be carried out. This should ideally be followed by a suitable moisturiser, especially suited to the combination skin.

For those of you who are still finding their feet in the field of skin care, I hope you know what is to exfoliate and toner the skin? For starters, exfoliating is basically the process in which the dead skin is tackled and removed off with suitable products.

On the other hand, toning is a process of using a lotion that cleanses the skin and shrinks the pores, adequately preparing the skin for moisturizing.

While exfoliating is generally considered as a part of the beauty care regimen, using a toner or not is almost always purely a matter of personal choice. If you have an oily skin and have felt good after using the toner a couple of times, then there is no reason you should not include toning as a regular part of your beauty care regimen. Similarly, if your skin has been left taut and too tight after you’ve used a toner, then you are best following exfoliating alone, leaving the part of toning out.

Perfumes and colognes form a very essential part of our lifestyle today. However, it is a sad fact that these fragrances have been found very much responsible for triggering off many types of skin allergies, ranging from the mild to the most severe ones.

Well, just have a look at this. Studies have shown Balsam of Peru, a very common ingredient in fragrances to be majorly related to skin allergies. To add on, the Fragrance mix is also considered to be one of the major causes of a skin allergy. For those who do not know fragrance mix is basically a group of the eight most common fragrance allergens found in foods, cosmetics, insecticides, antiseptics, soaps, perfumes and dental products.

Besides the ingredients itself, what is equally important is how you apply these perfumes. For instance, if there is some part of your body where your skin is more sensitive, you should be careful to avoid that point while applying a fragrance.

Oily skin demands a very stringent and regular skin care, failing which it can lead to a series of skin problems, led by the likes of acne.

It is for this reason that cleansing is regarded as the most important step in the care regimen for those with an oily skin. To take-up the procedure in the right fashion, first wash the skin with a medicated soap and lukewarm water. This will effectively remove the surface oil and dirt. You can use the special non-alkaline soaps that are available in a cream form.

Once this step is over, then a pre-cleansing method should be followed. This is ideally done with a gentle derm-abrasive method, cleansing the skin of dead cells and dislodging the hardened oil from the pores. A mixture of beauty grains along with a skin tonic has especially been found to be very useful for the oily skin.
